Why imaging guidance matters
The image helps plan the route—not merely find the lesion.
Ultrasound provides real-time guidance for many superficial and abdominal targets. CT may be selected when the lesion or surrounding anatomy requires cross-sectional localisation.
The appropriate approach depends on the clinical question, lesion location, prior imaging, medicines, blood tests and individual risk. Not every requested procedure is suitable for every patient.

Do I need a prescription and previous scans?+
Yes. Send or bring the referral and relevant ultrasound, CT, MRI or laboratory records. A radiologist reviews them before confirming the procedure.
Can the procedure be done on the same day?+
Selected procedures may be possible on the same day after image review, required blood tests and team availability. Complex drainage procedures need planned preparation.
Should I stop blood-thinning medicines?+
Never stop a prescribed medicine yourself. Share a complete medicines list; the treating doctor and procedural team will provide individual instructions.
Is local anaesthetic used?+
Local anaesthetic may be used depending on the procedure. The radiologist explains the steps, likely discomfort, alternatives and relevant risks before consent.
Are pathology charges included?+
The procedure, imaging guidance, consumables and laboratory analysis are separate components in some cases. The team will explain the applicable charges before booking.
When will the result be available?+
A procedure note and a pathology, cytology or microbiology result have different timelines. The team will provide the expected timeline for each.
